Teach Your Teens to Have a Better Attitude Free Article
Oct 1st, 2009 | Categories: FeatureHave you ever heard of Wayne Dyer’s theory that “your attitude towards
the world will determine the world’s attitude towards you?” What does
this mean? Let’s see if we can apply this to our daily lives. If we
have a bad attitude at work or school, then we will get back negative
situations and circumstances in our lives. Let’s see what we can do as
a parent to encourage our teen to have a positive attitude about
school, work and life. Once we develop this skill, it becomes a habit,
and is the reason why some people get promoted, and others just don’t
make the cut. Let’s give your teen the razor’s edge advantage to being
a successful leader, with the use of their attitude.
Try This Activity for One Week – Have an open discussion at the dinner
table about the attitude you have had lately about school or work.
Parents will need to open up about their own attitudes in their life
to see where changes can be made. Take a look at your attitude about
your work, and how you think your attitude may be either contributing
to your success, or holding you back. Being able to see both sides of
the coin is helpful, as it will take practice to for this good
attitude to become a habit. Teens will give an example of their
attitude towards something, and explain how they think it is either
contributing to their success, or holding them back from their desired
results.
Results – What’s happening with your family? Do you notice a pattern?
If we have a bad attitude about something, usually we are not
experiencing positive results in this area. If we are experiencing
positive results, it’s easy to have a good attitude about something,
right? So how do we get here, if we are on the flipside?
Change My Results NOW – This is the KEY to SUCCESS in your life. If
you want to change your results in any area, you just need to change
your thoughts, feelings and actions about this thing. Whatever area
you are struggling with, change your thoughts about that thing and you
will notice your results will change very quickly.
Feedback – Parents and teens will openly discuss the areas in their
life they would like to attain better results. Give each other ideas
on how you would change your attitude if you were in their shoes.
Parents; do not underestimate the power of your teen’s mind. They can
help you, just as much as you can help them.
Put it into Practice – See what happens when you attend that math
class, and start to participate and show enthusiasm during class?
Parents; see what happens when you put your heart into your work, and
live each day as a gift, not as a chore. Share your successes with
your family at the dinner table and remember that if you change your
attitude about the world, it will consequently change its attitude
towards you. You have the power to control your future with this
powerful habit.
